I’m Lilo van Wyk
I live in The Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme, in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. Ever since I can remember I always loved drawing – realising that it’s something I’m really good at, my love for wildlife and animals clearly showed through my work. I did not pursue life as an artist seriously until I was 29. Before that my creativity was channeled into being a Graphic Designer. I grew up in a family printing business and studied Electronic Origination that consisted of Graphic Design with leading Adobe programs, Typography and Print Estimating. Thereafter I started my career in the Printing industry.
In 2014 artist and my mentor, late André de Villiers, introduced me to the pen and ink Stippling technique. I absolutely fell in love with it. I was drawn to the realism and simplicity this technique presents and at the same time still kept its handmade appearance. Stippling art is very time consuming and requires hours of focusing, which make the completion very rewarding and valuable.
My style continued to evolve and soon I sold my first drawing! In 2016 I admitted my portfolio to the Department: Arts and Culture, Northern Cape. I was one of 10 artists selected to exhibit at the Decorex Africa Expo, in Cape Town. This opportunity broaden my horizons and I started my own business working from home. My studio is my ‘zen’ space. It’s where the magic happens. Since I started my self-employed journey, I have found a way to combine my sketching abilities with digital designs and today I’m proud of the variety of unique and custom made designs I can provide.
